Thanksgiving In A Nut Shell

Thanksgiving was a good time for us to get away. It had been awhile since we had actually left Dallas to go elsewhere for a short 'vacation'. But the idea of going to Abilene for that vacation wasn't what I would call an ideal one. What were we thinking? It was all about our family and friends--the only reason why we would ever return to Abilene in the first place. Don't get me wrong though, we had a blast. And I hadn't seen my brother since August, so it was great to spend some time with him and his wife.

We were there 5 days, yeah, 5 whole days--the longest time we've ever spent in Abilene since graduation. Josue thought ahead and brought his PlayStation and set it up at the house where Aaron and Elizabeth are currently house-sitting. That pretty much took care of things for the boys. Elizabeth had been planning the Thanksgiving meal for the last 2 weeks, and by the time we got there, had pretty much made many of the dishes and froze them. All that was left were a few more dishes and the turkey. By the way she had cooked, you would think she was feeding the entire neighbourhood. Nope, it was for only 6 of us (the other extra people were Ernesto, Josue's brother, and Lotefa, Ernesto's girlfriend). Needless to say, the meal was absolutely magnificent and probably the most I've ever eaten in a long time. We were spoilt rotten that day, and of course the few days after as well.

We didn't get up at an unearthly hour to stand in line at the stores on Black Friday, but we went a little later and managed to get hold of some special deals. I've noticed that everytime I'm in Abilene, I end up shopping, and not just window-shopping but actually buying things. I never shop at malls here in Dallas. Somehow it's just a lot easier to do so in a smaller town like Abilene. :)

Now we're home and gradually getting back into the groove of things again. December is already looking hectic for us, with Josue's work, church activities, parties and eventually the long trip we'll be making back to Brownsville to be with Josue's family for Christmas and the New Year. Around this time last year, we were frantically getting ready for our wedding. And I don't remember most of it. It's definitely feeling a lot less stressful this time around.

The Day After

After this magnificant meal last night (prepared by my lovely
sis-in-law Elizabeth seated far left), I don't think I can
eat for another week or so.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Christmas Before Thanksgiving?

Check out our Christmas tree! Some of you have made fun of us for that because Thanksgiving hasn't even come around yet and we've had the tree up since Oct. 31st! Josue and I wanted to start off our own little 'tradition' by breaking the tradition, so we went for it. In fact, we've already finished most of our Christmas shopping for our families, so the presents under the tree aren't fake, empty decorative boxes at all. I love having the tree up. It really feels like Christmas in our apartment, it's great!

We'll be going to Abilene EARLY Wednesday morning (we leave at around 4:30 am) and spending Thanksgiving with my brother Aaron and my sis-in-law Elizabeth. Haven't seen them since August, so I can't wait. Happy Turkey Day, happy eating and safe travels to all!

10 Reasons Why Deb Thinks She's Boyish...

1. I hardly believe in using make-up. I've owned the same make-up for about 2 years or so! It's lasted me that long because I rarely use them.
2. I'm not a big fan of chick flicks. I very much prefer action-packed movies.
3. Most kinds of PDAs (public display of affection) make me want to puke. Just get a room, will ya?!
4. My average time to shower and get dressed is about 10 minutes. That should be pretty good, right?
5. Malls are boring, for the most part.
6. I dress up only for special occasions, like weddings etc.
7. I own about a total of 7 skirts.
8. I have triple that number in shorts, pants and jeans.
9. Heels are a curse to my feet. Sneakers are a lot cooler and comfortable.
10. Many of the friends I've had through the years (even back in Malaysia) have been guys, a few being some of my bestfriends ever.

Of course, there are still things that discloses the fact that I'm very much female with typical female characteristics , like it doesn't take a whole lot to make me cry, or the fact that I enjoy shopping at Ross, or that I absolutely love cooking or anything culinary. And above all, I did get married! In the meantime though, this boyishness might take a little while longer to go away...

Football (NOT American 'Football') Fever

A group of us (a picture of us here having lunch at Steak 'N Shake)
went to watch the MLS Finals at the Pizza Hut Stadium
up in Frisco last Sunday afternoon. Most of us went wearing international
jerseys of our own, which of course was such a crowd pleaser. The game
was between New England and Los Angeles.

This was close to where we sat. We had the best seats ever!

New England and Los Angeles playing it hard.

*Note: Thanks to Jeremy for these awesome pictures, taken with his brand new (and very nice) digital camera.*

Sisterhood of the Malaysian Pants

I didn't grow up with sisters of my own. Some days I wonder how life for me would be like if I had one. Despite the fact that I don't have any blood sisters, I'm blessed to have other 'sisters' who are just like family; girls whom I've known for years since childhood. Kyna, Sarah and I have known each other for a long time since our younger years in Malaysia, and through time have quite consistently kept in touch despite parting and going different ways. Ironically, time eventually brought us back together again to the Dallas/FW area with our own families who now also share our mutual friendships. Looking forward to our next shindig, girls!! :)

And The Winner Is...

Sorry, but unfortunately nobody wins the prize. I decided to go with my own idea instead. I went as the Asian-version Mia Hamm--the famous woman soccer player from the last US Olympic national team, except that this time it was the English team. I didn't spend a single penny, which was the best part. I already owned the English soccer jersey, the shorts, and the socks and guards were Josue's. Meanwhile I also borrowed the cleats and ball from Adam. Don't I look like a pro? Anyway, I wanted to post this blog up tonight but don't have time to put up the rest of the pictures on My Yahoo yet, so more to come later!
