Birthdays and Such
I like birthday surprises, and not just the ones that are for me. :) The planning, the cake-baking, the anticipation, the secrecy and conspiracy...we're talking about some pretty intense stuff here. Just last night we threw a surprise birthday party for a close friend from church, "B". Originally this surprise was also for another girl whose birthday also falls this week, but she was unable to turn up afterall. We were going to surprise the girls after our usual Monday nights Life Group meeting. B and her husband are on rotation all this month to be hosts for Life Group, so throwing this party in her own home without her suspecting anything was a little tricky. But her husband was very helpful all throughout the process and gave us a spare key to their house so we could sneak in the cake and present in the afternoon before she returned home from school. We found out later that it turned out to be a close call because while we were sneaking into their house, B had called her husband saying that she was let out of class early and that she was on her way home. He freaked out because he knew we were there. It worked out alright because Josue and I were in and out of the house in no time. And she was utterly surprised in the evening when we finally brought the cake and candles out. She had no clue until we explained how we pulled everything together.
The last surprise party we attended was also a blast. Super Mom Kyna wanted to surprise her hubby with a graduation celebration (he got his Masters from ACU this summer) while he wanted to surprise her with a birthday party--both on the same day (the time was an issue at first but it worked out eventually)!!!. And since they had emailed pretty much the same group of friends from both sides, we all showed up at one time and they realized that they had surprised one another at the same time. It was a classic scene, they really thought they were doing this for each other and had absolutely no clue about the other's intentions. It was hilarious. Thanks for those great memories, guys! :)
Scott and Kyna will never live that one down, will they?! :)
