Thanksgiving In A Nut Shell
Thanksgiving was a good time for us to get away. It had been awhile since we had actually left Dallas to go elsewhere for a short 'vacation'. But the idea of going to Abilene for that vacation wasn't what I would call an ideal one. What were we thinking? It was all about our family and friends--the only reason why we would ever return to Abilene in the first place. Don't get me wrong though, we had a blast. And I hadn't seen my brother since August, so it was great to spend some time with him and his wife.
We were there 5 days, yeah, 5 whole days--the longest time we've ever spent in Abilene since graduation. Josue thought ahead and brought his PlayStation and set it up at the house where Aaron and Elizabeth are currently house-sitting. That pretty much took care of things for the boys. Elizabeth had been planning the Thanksgiving meal for the last 2 weeks, and by the time we got there, had pretty much made many of the dishes and froze them. All that was left were a few more dishes and the turkey. By the way she had cooked, you would think she was feeding the entire neighbourhood. Nope, it was for only 6 of us (the other extra people were Ernesto, Josue's brother, and Lotefa, Ernesto's girlfriend). Needless to say, the meal was absolutely magnificent and probably the most I've ever eaten in a long time. We were spoilt rotten that day, and of course the few days after as well.
We didn't get up at an unearthly hour to stand in line at the stores on Black Friday, but we went a little later and managed to get hold of some special deals. I've noticed that everytime I'm in Abilene, I end up shopping, and not just window-shopping but actually buying things. I never shop at malls here in Dallas. Somehow it's just a lot easier to do so in a smaller town like Abilene. :)
Now we're home and gradually getting back into the groove of things again. December is already looking hectic for us, with Josue's work, church activities, parties and eventually the long trip we'll be making back to Brownsville to be with Josue's family for Christmas and the New Year. Around this time last year, we were frantically getting ready for our wedding. And I don't remember most of it. It's definitely feeling a lot less stressful this time around.

I like the quiet vacations! But it sure sucks when you get to go back to work and make up for all the days you're gone!!!
That's so awesome you did the early morning shopping. We did that for several years and loved it because we got all our shopping out in a few hours AND saved money!!!!
